DF Piggybank

Patrick hummed to himself as he sat on the floor before his closet, digging out his secret box from its depths. Finally freeing it from the underneath the bag of Christmas supplies, the teen pulled the wooden box close to himself and flipped the lid open.

It'd been a birthday present years ago from a friend and he'd used it ever since to hide things in, including this. Gently pushing aside some papers, he smiled as he found what he was using for and reached in to extract the dark purple plastic pig from the box. The hefty weight of the large pig made his smile widen and a light feeling of happiness rose in his heart.

He knew it was kind of childish, but well, it worked! Besides, who would think that his secret cache would literally be in a piggy-bank?

Flipping the pig over, Patrick pulled the stopper out of its stomach and turned it right-side up, shaking loose the two months' worth of change and bills he'd stored away inside. He had to dig the last few bills out, but finally he had everything free.

Resuming his humming, Patrick separated the money, putting the bills to one side and the coins to another in separate piles. When that was done, he turned around and grabbed the bag of coin wrappers that he'd set down earlier. Bringing it around, he opened the bag and pulled out the wrappers for pennies, intent on getting the largest pile dealt with first.

As he sorted the money out, the teen couldn't help but picture Darius' surprise on his birthday next week. Thinking of his boyfriend, Patrick hesitated, listening carefully for any sound that the other man had come home early today. Hearing nothing but silence, he let out the breath he'd been holding and resumed his task.

When he finished, Patrick carefully double counted everything and nodded to himself. He was still a few dollars short from the present he had in mind, but he'd be able to get the money in the next few days.

Smiling again, he put the bills back inside the pig and replaced the stopper. After hiding it back inside his secret box, Patrick stashed it back into the closet and turned to the pile of wrapped coin rolls. Grabbing another bag, he gathered the rolls into it, planning out the next part of his plan.

Darius, with luck, should still be at work for the next two or three hours. That should give Patrick enough time to exchange the coin rolls at the bank and be back home in time to get dinner started before his boyfriend came home.

Standing up, he stretched before grabbing the bag and heading off to find his keys and shoes so he could do just that. It was great when a plan came together!
